"We developed a consumable based iron battery that generates enough power to charge a phone and light a LED. When the consumer wants electricity, he inserts the consumables (iron, paper and iron salt mixed with water) into the battery and can plug his lamp or phone during 5 hours.

During the chemical reaction, the iron is dissolved and gets into the solution. The resulting solution, iron 2 sulfate, can be disposed in the ground without any harm for the environment. As a solid it is even used as a fertilizer.

The product was built with the feedback of people in Tanzania and Kenya to make sure it would fit their needs, the prices are adapted, and they do have interest for it. During the last field test families could use it for a month. The whole village made a waiting list because they all wanted to have the battery in their home.
